JULY 3rd – ‘Despicable Me 4’

Minions are gonna minion (and rake in a BOATLOAD of cash). Baby Gru joins the despicable family this time around for some new hijinks, pitting themselves against the new bad voiced by Will Ferrell. I can’t really sell you on this, one way or the other. If you saw the other ones you’re going to check this one out too, if not enjoy what’s coming up the rest of the month.

July 5th – ‘MaXXXine’

The Ti West x Mia Goth trilogy comes to a close this month as MaXXXine hits theaters. Early response deems it more X than Pearl, which checks out considering this is a continuation of X’s story about Maxine Minx after her nice stay at that lovely farmhouse. This installment has the biggest names as support with Elizabeth Debicki, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, and Halsey joining the cast. Excited to check this one out, even make it a double feature with either Pearl or X!

July 12th – ‘Longlegs’

This is it, inject it into my veins immediately. ‘Longlegs’ follows ‘It Follows’ final girl Maika Monroe as a FBI agent trying to track down a serial killer. Who plays that serial killer you may ask? Only Nicolas Cage of all people. This is basically all I could ask from a film in the year of our lord 2024. It currently holds a 100% on rotten tomatoes as well.

July 12th – ‘Fly me to the Moon’

Channing Tatum and Scarlett Johansson star in this Apple Produced film in which Johansson is tasked with filming an alternative moon landing incase the boys don’t truly make it. Dubbed a romantic-comedy, with likeable leads hopefully this proves to be worth Apple’s spending. A $100 million dollar budget and massive superstars as leads but the biggest selling point to me? For my ‘Community’ fans, Dean Craig Pelton is back baby, Jim Rash I will watch anything you do after that PayDay rap now 12 years(?) removed.

July 19th – ‘Twisters’

We got twins, T W I N S ! ! ! ! I’ve been saying that for the past 6 months as I’ve seen this trailer play before every screening. Please understand that was not a complaint as Twisters might be my most anticipated film of the summer, a popcorn flick with pure adrenaline. A sequel to the 1996 film, storm chasers and scientists now must deal with 2 twisters (hence the name) led by Daisy Edgar Jones and Glen Powell. Also Glen Powell has already been up next but stock is still for sale and the time is now before he ‘Fly’s to the moon’ ba dum tss.

July 26th – Deadpool & Wolverine

What has to be the longest break in film release since the pandemic, the MCU returns with Deadpool & Wolverine which promises to be a balls to the wall team-up with cameos galore. While the fanservice will be through the roof, I pray Ryan Reynolds and the team were able to keep the heart and emotion that made ‘Deadpool’ and Deadpool 2′ work so well. Who is your biggest cameo guess? I’m leaning Hulk as we finally get a Wolverine vs Hulk battle that has been longed by fans for years. The box office results have the heavy shoulders lifted as recent films have performed well, but Marvel needs a hit on their hands to rejuvenate the optimism in the MCU.

Those are the big releases coming in July and you can expect reviews of Twisters, Longlegs, MaXXXine, and Deadpool & Wolverine right here on CultureCrit.
